Why we made a magazine (and what OnWood is really about)

People ask about the name, and it is not about wood. It is about which way we are facing. The story behind OnWood Tiles, and behind Kiln.

Reagan, back on the floor

Reagan, back on the floor

People ask about the name, and the honest answer is that it is not about wood. It is about which way we are facing.

This is not our first flooring business. Reagan and Carolanne ran Queensland Flooring Centre for four and a half years, and sold it in 2024 to take the kids travelling and have a proper stretch of time with them before school swallowed those years. Now we are back, so OnWood is a play on onward.

"But you do not sell wood!" Watch this space. There are plans to re-enter timber and carpet before long. We opened with tiles because tiles are the part we could do properly from the very first day.

What a two year break does to the ideas

The old business was run well and we were proud of it. What we did not expect was what a proper break would do to the ideas. The back-end systems, the way we want to look after people, the product access we now have: all of it was a long time in the making, and none of it would exist if we had never stopped.

So we made a few decisions on purpose. We keep real stock, held locally, because a floor you cannot get for months is not a floor you can have. We tell you honestly when the tile you love is wrong for the room you love it for. And we would rather you took samples home for a fortnight, in your own light, than decided anything under our showroom lights.

Which brings us to a magazine

Most of what is genuinely interesting about this material never fits into a conversation at a sample rack. So we made Kiln, our magazine, to give you inspiration you can actually use, and something worth keeping. Flick through Batch One here.

We are supply only, at Baringa on the Sunshine Coast, an easy run from Caloundra, Pelican Waters, Kawana and the hinterland. Bring your plans, a photo, or nothing at all, and we will help you work out your quantities.
